Bok bench to play pivotal role─── ADRIAN BOTHA 09:09 Thu, 16 Aug 2018
As Springbok supporters continue their countdown to their beloved green and gold's first Rugby Championship match this weekend, the team round off final preparations in Durban.
While Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus is expected to name his match day 23 to face Argentina on Thursday, his assistant coach, Matt Proudfoot is of the opinion that regardless of squad, the bench is going to play a vital role.
The forwards coach believes that rugby has changed in such a manner that your 2nd half of play often tends to be the toughest which is why reserves need to have impact.
"The way modern rugby is, the intensity of the game increases through the 2nd half so if you don't have a bench that can do that (make impact) then you are in trouble."
"Always in our selection policy we will look to make sure that we have guys that are fit enough to increase the intensity come second half," Proudfoot said
The Boks Rugby Championship campaign gets underway at 17:00 on Saturday against Argentina.
