Brits could get more than he bargained for

Following his surprise call up to the Springbok side, Schalk Brits could very well get more than he bargained for as this weekend could see him don the green and gold and maybe even get another shot at world cup glory.

Brits announced his retirement from rugby at end of this year's European domestic season but less than 2 weeks later he was on the training field with the Boks.

The 37-year-old was brought into the Springbok fold as experienced cover for Bismarck Du Plessis who missed out due to injury and although Brits did not feature in the Boks 23-12 series clinching win over England in Bloemfontein it seems coach Rassie Erasmus has bigger plans for the hooker.

Speaking at a press conference in Cape Town, Erasmus says that Brits will most certainly come into contention for game time in the 3rd test at Newlands and that discussions for future involvement is on the cards.

"I really think Schalk is the kind of guy that can play until he is 38 (years old), I think playing one more season wouldn't not be possible."

"We will just need to take stock after this series and make a decision but if we have to press on his number come the world cup we will certainly make a plan around that," Erasmus said.

The coach also confirmed that some changes can be expected for this weekends test but that every change has been made with a plan in mind.

Saturday’s test is to be played at Newlands and kicks off at 17:05 while Erasmus is expected to name his side for the test on Thursday.
