First round win provides Griquas with confidence boost─── ADRIAN BOTHA 09:00 Mon, 23 Apr 2018
The Tafel Lager Griquas kicked off their SuperSport Rugby Challenge campaign with a strong 50-33 win over the Sharks in Kimberley over the weekend which according to head coach Peter Engeldow is a massive confidence boost.
The Peacock Blues surprised in 2017 after making it all the way to the Rugby Challenge final but followed up that performance with a Currie Cup season that saw them end the season in a anti-climactic last place on the log.
Speaking to OFM Sport, Engeldow said that they welcomed the win following some restructuring during the pre-season not to mention one of the toughest lead-ups to the start of the season.
"We were under a bit of pressure going into this game, it has not been the smoothest of pre-seasons but we put that all behind us."
"We are delighted with the win because the Sharks are always dangerous and a good team so we are glad we got that one under the belt and it was nice to play at home," Engeldow said.
The Peacock Blues now ready themselves for what marks yet another Central South African derby in the competition when they face the Leopards in Kimberley this weekend.
