Daryl Impey backed up his stage 1 win at the Criterium du Dauphine with another fine showing on stage 2 of the 8-day race between Montbrison and Belleville to claim the coveted Dauphine yellow jersey.
The South African cyclist riding for Mitchelton-SCOTT claimed yellow after race leader Michael Kwiatkowski crashed on the 181km 2nd stage.
Despite finishing the stage, Kwiatkowski was relegated to 2nd in the general classification, two seconds adrift of Impey.
Today’s third stage is a 35km team time-trial which is expected to separate the men from the proverbial boys while Impey will be trying to defend his slender lead with the help of his teammates.
