The 15-year-old cycling sensation, Chanté Olivier of Hoërskool Sentraal, rocked the mountain biking courses in Europe for the second week in a row.

Last week, Olivier claimed the bronze medal after having to dig deep and work her way onto the podium during the Proffix Swiss Bike Cup in Rivera-Bironico, Ticino, Switzerland.

This after starting the race in 10th place and having to pick off the riders in front of her.

As it turned out, this actually counted in her favour, as this is exactly what she had to do a week later to earn a podium spot overseas for a second week running.

Over the weekend, Olivier finished in third overall again, but this time it was during the Internazionali d’Italia 2018 in Italy. Olivier started in 16th this time around and once again had to work her way through the field. She managed to briefly take the lead, but was passed by three riders after being caught behind the slower riders.

She managed to overtake one of the riders, which was good enough to round off the podium.

Noemi Plankensteiner won the race in 31:43 and Giulia Challancin took the silver in 32:20 to edge Olivier by a split-second. Only 38 seconds separated the top three riders, which indicates how close and competitive the race in Italy was.

Overall it was job well done by the Bloemfontein teenager, with two international podiums and a South African title all in the space of just three weeks.
