Semenya targets 34-year-old Budd 1500m record | News Article
Caster Semenya - Matthias Hangst

The three-time world and two-time Olympic 800m champion, Caster Semenya, will be targeting Zola Budd-Pieterse’s South African 1500m record in Paarl on Thursday evening.

The 4:01.81 record which was set by Budd-Pieterse, yesterday exactly 34 years ago, is under serious threat of being shattered by Semenya during the third leg of the Athletix Grand Prix Series.

Two weeks ago, Semenya bettered the 35-year-old South African 1000m record during the first leg of the series at the Tuks Athletics Stadium in Pretoria.

Semenya has already come close to breaking the record when she set her personal best time of 4:01.99 in Durban on 24 June 2016 at the Africa Championships.
