South African track superstar, Caster Semenya, has hinted at the possibility of another national record attempt when she takes to the track in Paarl this week.

Semenya will hope to build on her performance this past weekend at the Athletics South Africa senior championships where she claimed victory in both the 800m and 1500m events.

The 3rd and final leg of the inaugural Athletix Grand Prix Series takes place at the Dal Josaphat athletics stadium in the Cape Winelands town of Paarl and will be the venue Semenya is expected to line up for the 1500m.

Semenya has already come close to the national women's 1500m record of 4:01.81, which was set in 1984 by Zola Budd-Pieterse, when she clocked 4:01.99 in Durban in June 2016 at the African Championships.

Semenya's confidence is further boosted by the fact that mere weeks ago she broke the 35-year-old 1000m record of Ilse de Kock Wicksell.

Semenya won the race in a time of 2:35:44, beating the old record set in 1983 by almost two seconds.

All eyes will be on the World 800m champion when the meeting gets underway on Thursday and will also serve as good training for when she travels to the 2018 Commonwealth Games to be held from April 4-15 on the Gold Coast in Australia.
