The annual Cape Town Cycle Tour will go ahead as planned in early March, with stringent measures put in place to ensure responsible water usage during what is the worst drought on record in the Mother City.

The event has been scheduled to take place on the 11th of March and Cycle Tour Director David Bellairs confirmed yesterday that the event planning will continue.

Bellairs, who is aware of the sensitive subject of water, says participants have always come out in support and believes this year will be no different.

Bellairs says, "We have found that our participants over the years have embraced challenges like this and showed solidarity in this time of need."

He added that, "We need to be creative in the city, we need to not leave it simply to the powers that be to come up with the solution."

The Cape Town Cycle Tour was established 41 years ago with the sole purpose of raising money for charity according to the tour director and he believes it is a part of solution rather than a cause.
