South Africa's agricultural sector has preformed exceptionally well, despite various challenges facing the industry.

This is according to the chairperson of Nedbank, Vassi Naido, who was one of the speakers at Agri SA's annual conference in Pretoria this week. Naidoo says South Africa remains self-sufficient and is a major exporter - despite just 13.5% of land in the country suitable for crops, with only 3% of this being prime land.

One of two suspects - that were arrested in connection with the murder of small-scale farmer, Johannes Moloi, on his small holding in Senekal - has been positively linked to another incident of murder and house robbery in the Free State. Police spokesperson, Phumelelo Dlamini, says Diau Tshabalala is expected to appear in the Senekal Magistrate's Court soon in connection with the murder earlier this year of Anna Idith Letshela. He says Letshela was found strangled in her bedroom in Matwabeng near Senekal. Tshabalala and Lionel Cupido were arrested last Thursday in Senekal after Moloi was assaulted and robbed of an undisclosed amount of money in his house on his small holding earlier that day. Moloi later died in a hospital in Bethlehem. The suspects are expected to apply for bail on Monday, after they briefly appeared in the local Magistrate's Court on charges of murder and house robbery this week.
