Farmers in FS to use water sparingly - department─── CHRISTAL-LIZE MULLER 10:39 Wed, 18 Jul 2018
The Department of Water and Sanitation in the Free State appeals to farmers who irrigate from the Orange River to adhere to water restrictions and use water sparingly.
This comes after the Gariep Dam, which feeds the Orange River, has shown a slight drop in its latest level taken last week.
Provincial Head of the Department, Tseliso Ntili, says the dam water level was at 93% compared to 93.9% the previous week. He says it is important for irrigation farmers to be cautious with their water consumption.
He says despite the total water storage in the Free State standing at 94.2%, the department still encourages water users to save water, as the water situation in South Africa remains a challenge.
