AG releases a report on #FSmunicipalities─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 06:51 Wed, 11 Jul 2018
Free State municipalities’ financial woes will once again be in the spotlight this morning when the Auditor-General (AG) releases a report on the performance of all municipalities in the province.
This comes just a month after the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), Zweli Mkhize, engaged the provincial government and nine priority municipalities over their increasing debts. He confirmed that in as much as municipalities in this province require urgent intervention, they also need to be proactive and plan on how to recover from the financial crisis they find themselves in.
This, as they are rated amongst the worst run municipalities countrywide and have the highest water boards and Eskom debts. OFM News’ Katleho Morapela reports Mkhize further confirmed that municipalities in the province make up 40 % of the debt owed to Eskom.
