#SONA2018: #Ramaphosa vows to grow the economy─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 20:54 Fri, 16 Feb 2018
The newly elected President Cyril Ramaphosa vows to work on measures to grow South Africa’s economy and improve job creation.
Delivering the State of the Nation Address (SONA), he said the government will ensure that state-owned companies fulfil their economic and developmental mandates. This includes ensuring that there is no corruption, there are changes to how board members are appointed and that only those with expertise and adequate skills are appointed on these state-owned enterprises’ boards.
He added there are also plans to ensure that employment figures are increased in the different sectors. Ramaphosa said with youth unemployment still at an alarming rate, the government will ensure that one million internships are created within the next three years.
Opposition parties have, however, criticised some of his ideas saying some of them are not practical and they will clearly outline their thoughts on his speech on Monday, February 26, during the SONA debate.
