Brace yourself for another fuel price hike─── JOSCA HUMAN 08:25 Mon, 02 Oct 2017
Motorists are reminded to fill their tanks before 4 October.
According to a statement by the Automobile Association (AA), petrol is set to rise by around 30 cents, diesel by 41 cents, and illuminating paraffin by 37 cents.
These increases come barely a month after petrol increased by 67 cents and diesel by 44 cents a litre at the beginning of September.
"The first half of September saw the Rand appreciate against the US dollar, but this trend has been reversed since September 12, with the weaker currency eating into its earlier gains," the AA says.
An agricultural economist at the Agricultural Business Chamber (Agbiz), Wandile Sihlobo, says the price of fuel would be at its highest level in three years.
Sihlobo says South Africa is affected by the fluctuation of the Brent crude oil price, and this increase will place pressure on farmers as the new planting season begins. As a result of higher transportation costs, consumers will be affected as food will become more expensive.
