Public Protector to use municipal offices and magistrate courts─── 10:23 Fri, 24 Mar 2017
Bloemfontein - Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane, is in talks with the Departments of Justice and Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) to make use of municipal offices and magistrate courts in different provinces.
According to the Public Protector’s spokesperson, Oupa Segalwe, a final agreement is yet to be reached followed by the signing of a memorandum of understanding.
Segalwe says during the Public Protectors’ nationwide tour it was discovered that people at the grassroots are often not sure where to lodge their complaints.
He adds, however, it will be ensured that, while using government institutions, the independence of the office of the Public Protector will not be compromised.
