Eskom: power grid stable

Eskom: power grid stable | News Article

Johannesburg - Power utility Eskom says there are no scheduled blackouts as power supply remains stable over the Easter holidays.

According to spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe, the power grid remains the same as yesterday and Thursday and there are no plans to have loadshedding today as demand for electricity is low during public holidays.

He however warns that an increase in demand for electricity can be expected next week as people return from holidays. Phasiwe urges customers to save electricity where possible.

In recent months, Eskom has battled to keep the lights on since the collapse of one of its coal storage silos, constant diesel shortages and maintenance issues.

Last month, the board suspended chief executive Tshediso Matona and three other executives pending an investigation into the problems at the power utility. Eskom board chair Zola Tsotsi also resigned last week.
