The North West Department of Education says preparations for the 2019 academic year have been done and it’s all systems go.

Speaking ahead of the schools’ re-opening on Wednesday, spokesperson for the department, Freddy Sepeng, told OFM News that all learner and teacher support material and textbooks have been delivered to schools and they are confident that their teachers are also well rested and ready to tackle the new academic year. Sepeng says that they are pleased with the class of 2018’s matric results and they are aiming to improve the quality of education this year. The province attained 83.8% which is an improvement of 1.7 % from the 82.1 % achieved in 2017. He adds that the placement of learners into schools has been done and there are no learners sitting without schools at this stage.

It is alleged that more than 30 000 learners countrywide still need to be placed into schools, with the majority being in Gauteng.
