NW Premier send condolences to Kathrada family | News Article

North West Premier, Job Mokgoro, has expressed his condolences to Ahmed Kathrada’s family following the murder of two of the deceased stalwart’s relatives this week.

The 65-year-old Yunus and his son, 28-year-old Moulana Ahmed Kathrada, were shot and killed in their Schweizer-Reneke home on the evening of November 2.

Yunus was the anti-apartheid struggle icon’s nephew.

Police spokesperson, Kelebogile Moleko, says the incident happened in an attempted robbery at about 9:00 pm, as the 28-year-old man arrived from the mosque.

He was accosted by armed men, who then shot him in the chest.

His father was shot in the head, as he confronted the two suspects, after he heard the gun shots from inside the family’s home.

The father died on the scene while his son died in hospital.

Yunus’s wife, who was inside of the house at the time, was not injured in the incident.

It has been reported that she is still traumatised from Thursday’s incident.

The suspects are still at large.
