Free State Rugby is inviting the public to witness a showcase on Sunday, 4 November, in honour of the armed forces as part of the commemoration of Remembrance Day.

A procession made up of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), South African Police Services (SAPS), the Air Force, the Traffic Department, the Fire department and Rescue Unit (SAPS Driving Unit, Dog Unit & Mounted Unit) will move around the Toyota Stadium from 13:45 to 14:00 as part of the celebrations.

There will also be a demonstration on the field by the SAPS Dog Unit and the SANDF Band.

Spectators can also look forward to viewing an exhibition of the vehicles that will be used in the parade and an SANDF helicopter which will be on display on the hockey pitch behind Toyota Stadium.

OFM News spoke to Free State Rugby Communications General Manager, Randy September, who encouraged people to come out in their numbers for this showcase before enjoying the PRO14 rugby match between the Cheetahs and Ireland’s Munster which will kick off at 16:45.

“At 13:45 there will be a convoy which will depart from Att Horak Avenue and the gates will open at 14:00 for spectators to see the exhibition on the hockey field,” September said.

Remembrance Day (also known as Poppy Day) is a day observed on 11 November in memory of the members of the armed forces who died in the line of duty during the First World War.

It is also observed to recall the end of the “hostilities” of World War I which ended on the 11th day of the 11th month, at the figurative 11th hour.
