The opposition parties in the North West are calling for the head of Social Development MEC, Hoffman Galeng.

DA MP, Joe McGluwa, says Premier Job Mokgoro must fire Galeng amid allegations of him paying R50 000 every month for private security at his house in Vryburg. He also asked him to delay his planned cabinet reshuffling. McGluwa says Galeng must be dismissed as a matter of urgency and made to pay back all the money that has been spent on the private security.

OFM News reported that the provincial Legislatures’ Public Accounts Committee (Scopa) dismissed Galeng’s response to these allegations and said the MEC and his team presented four different versions of the response. The EFF in the province also called earlier for Galeng to be fired .

The premier’s office is yet to comment.

“We are asking as to what is happening here, is the dishonourable Galeng left in the Wild West (do as pleases) while we have a community out there that is unsafe. But instead we are having the security looking after a house of the MEC who is not even there,” says McGluwa.

McGluwa says this is not the first time that Galeng has played fast and loose with the people’s money. He says in 2015 the MEC allegedly used R225 000 in five months on an ANC credit card, which is primarily funded by the taxpayer through grants and by allowances from the legislature.

He adds that Galeng allegedly used the money to buy Nando’s and KFC, R79 000 for groceries, more than R100 000 on petrol and rental cars, and six different swipes for fuel in just one day.

McGluwa says the Premier should call off his planned cabinet reshuffling for now as they also have vast of reports to present to the premier regarding the fruitless and wasteful expenditure.
