The Free State Provincial Government is pulling out all the stops to ensure that the province retains its number one position in the country as the province with the best matric results.

In its latest effort, the department has undertaken to sign a pledge with matriculants, in the province, not to cheat and to give their best in the forthcoming final matrix exams, which commences next week.

Scores of learners from the Free State's class of 2018 will shortly be signing their pledges totaling more than 1600 learners from various districts. They are gathered at the Dr Petrus Rantlai Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein, where a pledge signing ceremony is underway.

Free State Education MEC Tate Makgoe and premier Sefora Ntombela are expected to address learners as part of an interactive session.

Also in attendance, are about 800 graduates who were beneficiaries of the provincial government's bursary scheme, including students who are studying abroad. They graduated at Higher Learning Institutions in China, Russia and other countries abroad.

These graduates are dressed in their graduation regalia as a way to encourage the current group of matric learners to aspire towards graduating.
