Basic Education concerned about learner behaviour─── 08:50 Sun, 23 Sep 2018
The Department of Basic Education is becoming increasingly concerned about school violence.
Following the burial of a 24-year-old North West teacher, Gadimang Mokolobate, at his home village of Miga yesterday, Basic Education Department spokesperson, Elijah Mhlanga says the parents need to be asked if they have learnt any lessons from the incident and also if they know how to guide their children on appropriate behaviour at school.
Speakers at the funeral called on society to stand against violence at schools.
He was stabbed to death allegedly by a 17-year-old learner at the Ramotshere Secondary School.
Mhlanga says the department cannot do anything on its own and it is difficult to charter a way forward without the involvement of the parents and society.
