Road signs indicating special reserved parking for Social Development MEC and his Head of Department – right next to a public road – have raised eyebrows in the Bloemfontein City Center.
OFM News was alerted about the yellow painted road signs indicating that the parking spot was reserved for MEC Butana Komphela and his HOD.
The road sign in West Burger Street sparked much controversy, with opposition parties questioning how the duo could have reserved parking in a public space.
According to opposition parties, the Free State department has a dedicated floor in the underground parking lot at the Southern Life building, that hosts political parties, legislature and other government departments.
EFF’s councilor in the Mangaung Metro Municipality, Baba Sebolao, told OFM News it is not acceptable for the public to be restricted from using a public parking spot. The department is yet to respond on the matter.
