#NWprotests flare up in Taung and Delareyville─── OLEBOGENG MOTSE 17:05 Mon, 23 Apr 2018
Protests in the North West town of Taung have descended into chaos, with residents allegedly looting shops in the area.
A motorist who did not want to be named told OFM News that residents had barricaded the N18 road between Taung and Vryburg and were hurling vehicles with rocks.
He said at the time police were not on the scene. This comes after Delareyville residents took to the streets, barricading the N14 outside the town with burning tyres, rocks and tree branches among other objects.
North West police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone has confirmed protest action has flared up in the Delareyville and Taung area.
Mokgwabone could not be reached for the latest on the protests. Despite this, order has been restored to Mahikeng where protests last week became violent, with residents torching a number of government buildings.
The Mmabana Arts and Cultural Centre was one of the buildings vandalised and torched by disgruntled community members. 32 people in total were arrested for public violence last week.
