The South African Human Rights Commission(SAHRC)is currently in talks with the Mangaung Metro Municipality following the eviction of more than 65 Bloemfontein families this morning.
Residents at the Brandwag Municipal Flats in the city and their belongings were left stranded as an eviction order enforced.
Earlier there were clashes between residents and police officers as tempers flared up and scuffles broke out. Free State Provincial Manager of the SAHRC, Thabang Kheswa, confirmed to OFM News that they intervened in the matter.
Josca Human reports that calls and media questions to the Mangaung Metro went unanswered.
OFM News contacted the South African Human Rights Commission because on an earlier eviction case in the Free State it made a finding that if the municipality evicts people it is obligated to offer alternative accommodation.
Talks between the commission and the Mangaung Metro is continuing while rain has started to soak residents and their belonging.
Mangaung Metro EFF Councillor Baba Soabelo says this is inhuman of the municipality.
