Residents in South of Bloemfontein without water over Easter | News Article

Residential areas in the South of Bloemfontein is still without water.

The Longridge and Brandkop reservoirs ran dry after pipes and pumps were damaged after being clogged with mud.

The Mangaung Metro’s DA councillor, Rossouw Botes, says areas such as Pellissier, Lourier Park and Kwaggafontein are affected.

Rossouw says the clogging follows good rain in the catchment area- especially the East Free State and Lesotho.

Botes, who has been in liaison with the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality who says, a second pump was installed at Bloemwater last night and 1200 litres is being pumped to the Brandkop reservoir.

Botes says if everything runs smoothly, water supply can be restored at houses.

“According to Bloemwater and the Municipality, they are still struggling to pump water from the Caledon river to Brandkop reservoir due to a lot of salt in the Caledon river. According to the latest information 1200 litres of water is being pumped to Brandkop,” says Botes.

The Municipalities spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, is still to be reached for comment.
