Coligny murder trial continues | News Article

Mmabatho - The trial of the two suspects accused of murdering a teenager from Coligny continued in the North West High court in Mmabatho today.

The National Prosecuting Authority's (NPA) spokesperson, Frank Lesenyego, told OFM News that the state called on Warrant Officer Jeremiah Modisane today to testify about the events of 20 April 2016, which led to the death of the 16-year-old Matlhomola Mosweu.

Modisane was manning the charge office at the time when Pieter Doorewaard and Philip Schutte initially reported the incident.

According to Modisane, the two accused arrived at the police station and asked for an ambulance and added after arresting Mosweu, he jumped from the moving bakkie and injured himself.

Mosweu later passed away on the same day. The state, however, argues that the accused threw Mosweu from the moving bakkie.

The death of the boy sparked protests that left a trail of destruction in Coligny.

Several shops and vehicles were damaged in the process.

The trial is on the court roll until March 30.
