NW: Police warn against calls from bogus police officials─── MARK STEENBOK 16:49 Tue, 27 Feb 2018
Rustenburg - The North West police have issued a stern warning to farmers and community members from Boons near Rustenburg to be aware of calls from people who pretend to be police officials, and then steal their money and livestock from them.
Police spokesperson, Ofentse Mokgadi, says the suspects would call and then claim that they are police officers, who have recovered their stolen livestock.
According to Mokgadi they would then demand a sum of between R3000 and R5000 from the victims, as well as airtime so that they can return their recovered livestock.
Mokgadi adds that the suspects are said to be very convincing and in some instances even provide information relating to the victims cases.
“They would further inform and threaten the victims that their livestock will be taken to the government pound, if they fail to pay immediately the requested amount through Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). Members of the community and farmers are informed that the police will not request them to pay any amount of money for investigation of their cases,” says Mokgadi.
