The first National Art Bank in South Africa was launched at Oliewenhuis Art Museum in Bloemfontein today. According to Minister Nathi Mthethwa, art contributes R1 billion to the economy each year.

The National Art Bank is a project that was set up by Mthethwa to identify work of young artists from all over South Africa. This project aims to promote South African art, economic sustainability and job creation. The plan of this project is to go beyond the border of the Free State.

The Art Bank will act as a rental agency which will let out artwork to various corporations and this will ensure the artist of exposure as well as compensation for their work.

The exhibition will run until the 28th of January 2018, where art selections from 8 provinces, 32 artists and 54 artworks will be displayed. The aim is not only to market art but also to bring businesses and culture together.
