Mafube financial woes under scrutiny─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 14:58 Wed, 22 Nov 2017
The Mafube Municipality in the Free State has once again come under the spotlight.
This after the DA in the province requested the South African Human Rights Commission to launch investigations into the municipality’s lack of service delivery and inadequate sanitation. It is alleged that the municipality, still in the red with Eskom, is failing to provide its residents with clean running water. This is coupled with allegations of sewage water overflowing in many of its towns. In a statement, the party says the provincial Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) should also be investigated following their failure to improve the functioning of the municipality after placing it under administration earlier this year.
Web: The municipality has also recently been under fire for outstanding salary payments to its employees. OFM News has reported on the municipality’s alleged failure to pay employees’ medical aid, pension fund, UIF and union subscriptions.
The Freedom Front Plus MPL, Wouter Wessels, has previously also told OFM News that the magnitude of the municipality’s financial woes is shocking.
Meanwhile, the municipal spokesperson is yet to respond to OFM News' enquires.
