North West ready for exams─── DANE BEISHEIM 15:12 Mon, 23 Oct 2017
The 2017 final National Senior Certificate Examinations kicked off in North West today with the writing of a German additional language paper.
According to the Education Department’s spokesperson in the province, Freddy Sepeng, two learners wrote the test – one in Rustenburg and one in Potchefstroom. Sepeng says that all is ready for the rest of the 35 700 learners in the Platinum Province to start their exams with their first English paper. According to Sepeng, learners have been geared for successful exams through an expanded learning programme that included learning camps held over holidays and weekends since January this year until yesterday.
“So, what I can tell you is that we are ready. Last year we had an 82% pass rate. This year we want something between 82% and 86%. Really, our teachers are ready to mark the exams, our learners are ready to write and we are ready as a department,” Sepeng concludes.
