A case of attempted murder has been opened after it was discovered that a farm owner died from a heart attack instead of a gunshot wound.
This comes after the farm owner and his son were allegedly attacked by three suspects near Potchefstroom on Friday. A case of murder had previously been opened.
The 69-year-old apparently collapsed during a scuffle with the suspects before post-mortem results revealed the cause of death. None of the suspects have been arrested yet. According to police’s Pelonomi Makau, an investigation into the incident continues.
The man and his son were alerted by an alarm and they went outside to investigate. “They apparently saw three suspects hiding at a fence, who reportedly shot at the farm owner. He died at the scene. The son managed to fight back the suspects. He managed to confiscate a firearm, knife and cell phone from the suspects. They then fled the scene,” explained Makau.
