More SA children are growing up in #Poverty─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 15:42 Tue, 22 Aug 2017
The increasing number of child-headed families is one of the issues that the Free State Government urgently needs to attend to.
This is according to the Chairperson for the Portfolio Committee on Social Services in the Free State Legislature, Lucy Mapena. She says issues relating to child-headed families and disabled people still not receiving social grants in some rural parts of the province, are among some of the pressing issues that need to be dealt with.
This comes amidst the Poverty Trends Report released by Statistics South Africa indicating that poverty is on the rise in the country with children aged between 0-17 mostly affected.
The report also indicates that over 30 million South Africans were living in poverty in 2015.
