Bloemfontein police ask communities to stay calm after shooting incident─── CHRISTAL-LIZE MULLER 14:47 Wed, 26 Jul 2017
Bloemfontein - The Provincial Police Commissioner in the Free State, Lebeoana Tsumane, has condemned a shooting incident in which four men were fatally wounded and three people were injured late last night.
This comes after two men wearing balaclavas entered a house in the Chris Hani informal settlement at 23:45. Police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, says a group of people were still awake inside the house when one of the men who were armed, allegedly started shooting randomly at the group, after which they fled the scene. Mbambo says Tsumane has appointed a high-level team of investigators to ensure that those responsible for the gruesome act are brought to book.
The investigative team is led by Major General Jones Qhobosheane. Mbambo says Tsumane has requested the community not to panic, as this is an “isolated incident that will be investigated thoroughly”. “Our deployments that have been dealing with sensational crimes in hotspot areas around Mangaung, including gangs, are still in the area to monitor the situation,” says Tsumane.
Mbambo says the motive for the killings is being investigated. Nothing was reported missing from the house.
