IPID on preliminary investigations into shooting incident in Batho | News Article

Bloemfontein - The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) says preliminary investigations into a case involving a police constable who allegedly shot a 24-year-old man at his home in Batho indicate he might have acted in self-defence.

Spokesperson, Moses Dlamini, says it is alleged that the deceased threw a brick on the police vehicle and attacked the policeman with a knife.

The 24-year-old was shot in front of his home, last week.

Community members have, however, described the deceased as someone who kept to himself and never caused trouble in the community.

"The preliminary information we have is that the policeman might have acted in self-defence. The investigation continues and we will, based on the outcome of the investigation, then take any further action as the investigation unfolds," Dlamini adds.
