Marikana - The Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) handed over a house to the family of slain Marikana massacre victim, Mgcineni Noki, on Saturday.

The family of Noki, also known as Mambush or the man in the green blanket is one of 34 families which the union will assist in building homes for.

AMCU President, Joseph Mathunjwa, reaffirmed the commitment the union made to the families following a clash with the police with resulted in their deaths five years ago.

Mathunjwa says Noki was a revolutionary.

“It was iconic of him to change the narrative that South Africa can only live with one policy call part-policy of Neo-liberalism. He broke those shackles that there are other economic formats that can be followed. That was radical economic transformation that he was preaching of, which was foreign in South Africa at the time,” he says.

Mathunjwa says they will be following up with other families in Lesotho, Swaziland and other parts of South Africa. He says they hope to be done with the building of a house of the family of another victim in Free State in August this year.

AMCU President, Joseph Mathunjwa, said the family of slain Marikana massacre victim, Mgcineni 'Mambush' Noki, say the overwhelming support they have received from the union is much needed.
