MEC warns speedsters ahead of long weekend | News Article

Bloemfontein - The highest speed recorded over the Easter weekend was 227km in a 120km zone.

The driver in this incident was one of 107 who were arrested for speeding offences, while seven more people spent some time behind bars for driving under the influence of alcohol. These details were released by Free State MEC for Police, Roads, and Transport, Sam Mashinini, during a media briefing this morning.

Mashinini stressed that drivers should ensure their cars were roadworthy or they would be impounded in order to reduce traffic accidents, while he also warned that high police visibility will be maintained over the coming long weekend to prevent a slaughter on the province's roads.
