Trial date set for Baatjes murder case─── MARK STEENBOK 12:25 Thu, 30 Mar 2017
Kimberley - The trial of the six suspects accused of the murder and kidnap of a Danielskuil DA councillor and his business partner will start in the Northern Cape High Court on June 12.
This is according to Hawks spokesperson, Philani Nkwalase. The case was earlier postponed as the six accused could not afford legal representation. Judge President Frans Kgomo has raised concerns about the delay.
The accused allegedly shot Jeffrey Nouse and forced Johannes Baatjes into the boot of their car and later shot him multiple times after luring him to a business proposal in August last year. The state alleges that the accused, who are ANC members, were attempting to prevent the coalition led by the DA and Kgatleopele Community Forum from gaining control of the local municipality following the local government elections last year.
