Ficksburg - Eighteen people, including police officers and Home Affairs officials were nabbed by the Hawks at the Ficksburg Border Post between South Africa and Lesotho today.
This is the fourth bust at a border post with the previous one just a week ago at Vioolsdrift, where an official was arrested in connection with corruption. National Hawks spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says the investigation into allegations of corruption at the Ficksburg Border Post was started more than a year ago. He says today’s operation follows after the unit declared war on corruption at border posts.
Netshiunda says the suspects, some of whom were arrested while on duty, demanded up to R200 for their services from undercover cops.
Netshiunda says during the operation one of the suspected policeman’s house was searched and more than R24 000 in cash and 17 watches which cost over R100 000 each were confiscated. He said this will be investigated further.
