Cash-strapped FS municipality throws lavish bash for Hlaudi Motsoeneng | News Article

Bloemfontein - The cash-strapped Maluti-A-Phofung Municipality threw former SABC COO, Hlaudi Motsoeneng, a homecoming bash at the Phuthaditjhaba stadium in Qwaqwa on Saturday.

Hundreds were treated to entertainment by an all-star line-up which included musos such as Rebecca Malope, Dr Malinga, Jub Jub and Doc Shebeleza.

The municipality provided members of the public with free tickets.

The public were informed to collect tickets at various locations including a local petrol station‚ butchery‚ the municipal offices as well as the Qwaqwa Radio Station's offices during the week.

According to TimesLive, an official in the mayor’s office admitted that while the bash was organised by the municipality‚ it was not an ANC event and was paid for by “businessmen”.

The event was preceded by Motsoeneng donating uniforms and school shoes to three rural schools in Qwaqwa - Thaba Bosiu Primary School‚ Metsimatsho Secondary School, and Miri Primary School.

The event comes two weeks after municipal officials sat down with the Public Protector to discuss issues of mismanagement following complaints laid with the institution.

Deputy Public Protector, Kevin Malunga, said the municipality had to be subpoenaed for this sit-down due to a lack of cooperation.

Malunga said the municipality has a deadline of 31 March to respond to questions relating to the issues raised in their meeting.
