FS police crack stock theft syndicate─── 07:19 Mon, 06 Feb 2017
Bethlehem - Free State police have arrested four men alleged to be part of a stock theft syndicate responsible for stealing a substantial number of cattle in Bethlehem, Reitz and Lindley.
Police spokesperson, Zweli Mohobeleli, says the four, aged between 20 and 65, are expected to appear in the Bethlehem Magistrate's Court tomorrow. They were arrested by members of the Fouriesburg Stock Theft Unit and farmers at the weekend.
Mohobeleli says police investigations led to farms in the Bethlehem and Kestell areas where the stock was being kept. A total of 43 cows and 40 calves at an estimated value of R550 000, stolen between July 2016 and January 2017, were recovered and returned to their lawful owners.
Free State Police Commissioner, Lebeoana Tsumane, said he was happy with the growing partnership between police and farmers.
