Memorial held for slain DJ─── 07:07 Fri, 21 Oct 2016
Bloemfontein - A memorial service for murdered DJ Thato “BlueBoy Bond” was held on Thursday at the Civic Theatre in Bloemfontein.
The local musician’s family, members of the Free State music fraternity and representatives of associations for artists in the entertainment industry were present at the memorial. The master of ceremonies was local community radio personality DJ Shaun ‘Dihoro’ Macingoane.
Booysen was remembered for all the comical things he used to do to his near and dear. CDs with the late DJ’s music were circulated among the crowd so that the legacy he left could be remembered. Motheo FM station manager, Manko Tsoehlisi, said that in memory of Booysen, all community radio stations will play music by local artists on high rotation for the months of November and December.
Night Club Owners Association representative in Bloemfontein, Lefu Mngomezulu, also appealed to the DJs in the Free State to stop fighting among themselves and rather focus on the things they have in common. He added that fighting simply delays the process of success for DJs as they cannot fight and be successful in their craft at the same time.
Booysen was killed at Street Corner Braai, a pub and braai spot in Bochabela. He will be laid to rest on Saturday at Phahameng Cemetary in Bloemfontein.
