Minister of Defence honours fallen woman soldiers─── MARK STEENBOK 15:28 Fri, 30 Sep 2016
Bloemfontein - More needs to be done to protect women and children in South Africa ahead of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children Campaign next month.
This was the message from the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, while addressing approximately 500 women soldiers at a special parade at the Tempe military base in Bloemfontein today.
The aim of the parade was to pay tribute and honour woman soldiers who died in the line of duty, including the eleven soldiers who passed away in a bus crash on the R712 near Golden Gate last month.

She says the defence force must fight violence and abuse against women with a zero tolerance approach.
“The SANDF is not excluded from these challenges and must campaign and contribute to eliminate violence against women and children. Freedom cannot be achieved unless women have been emancipated from all forms of oppression. Our endeavours must be about the liberation of women,” says Nqakula.
