Elderly Stilfontein man fit to stand trial for wife's murder─── DANE BEISHEIM 11:39 Mon, 30 Mar 2015
Stilfontein - Doctors at the Sterkfontein Psychiatric Hospital in Krugersdorp have found 84-year-old Kobus Groenewald fit to stand trial for the murder of his wife.
Groenewald, who is charged with assaulting and fatally stabbing his 69-year-old wife Dienkie in May last year, appeared in the Stilfontein Magistrate's today.This after his case was postponed several times while he waited seven months for a bed to become available at the hospital.
The case was however postponed after Groenewald complained of severe pains. He will now be admitted to the Potchefstroom Hospital for observation.
His next appearance will be on April 23, when a decision will be made on whether his case will be referred to the High Court or Regional Court.
