Fauresmith - More than half of the 247 horse and rider teams that started day three of the gruelling Fauresmith 200 National Endurance Championships have crossed the finish line at the showgrounds in Fauresmith.
Race coordinator Charmaine Nickison says the last of the plus minus 100 horses still out on the track are expected to arrive by around 3pm this afternoon.
First over the line just before 10:00 was 20-year-old lightweight rider Sharina Bosch on purebred Arabian Mardien Bluejeans owned by Jan Uys from Tosca.
Nardus Scheepers was first across the line in the standard weight category, accompanied by his son CF in the children’s category.
The first heavyweight rider over the line was Lucas Fourie on Shakira, a horse that has won the ride on more than one occasion in the past.
This year’s ride also boasts international competitors from Namibia, the USA, Czechoslovakia, the United Kingdom and a team from the Kingdom of Lesotho.
