The 19-year-old amateur golfer, Wilco Nienaber, will be playing in his biggest overseas tournament to date when he tees it up at the British Masters next week.

The Bloemfontein-golfer has received an invite to compete it the prestigious tournament which is being hosted by Tommy Fleetwood.

The European Tour event at the Hillside Golf Club on accommodates two amateurs, however, Nienaber received an invite to play.

Nienaber told OFM Sport that although it’s not the Open Championship he is really excited.

“I am really excited to be playing and it is obviously the biggest event that I have played in.

“The people really do confuse it with the British Open (Open Championship), but it is still a really big event so I cannot what to get it going.

“First I am playing in the Lytham Trophy this weekend. It starts on Thursday, so I’ve got to get that out of the way then I can move on to next week.

The former Bloemfontein professional, Dean Burmester, who also attended Grey College will be teeing it up as well.

In March Nienaber and Burmester both teeded it up at the Qatar Masters on the European Tour, and this was the first time ever that two Grey Old Boys played in the same event on the tour. During the tournament in Qatar, Nienaber, was able to make the cut, while Burmester failed to do so.

The 2019 British Masters tees off on 9 May.
