South Africa’s Erik van Rooyen and Shaun Norris who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively at the recently concluded Joburg Open have in so doing secured their spot for next year’s Open Championship in Scotland.

A place at next year's Open Championship was up for grabs for the top three players in the field not already exempt and aside from Van Rooyen and Norris, new Joburg open champion Shubhankar Sharma has also claimed a spot.

Sharma held his nerve tocard a final round 69 and win a first European Tour title at the weather-delayed Open which forced a 5th day after thunderstorms, hail and heavy rain forced golfers off the course on Sunday afternoon.

Van Rooyen in his turn says its surreal to know that he will be taking to the Carnoustie golf Links in Angus Scotland.

He says, "Its the one we all want to win and just playing in this tournament is phenomenal."

"It will be my first major and I do not want to get ahead of myself but I can picture coming down that stretch in that position and the opportunity to win", he added.

The 147th Open Championship at the Carnoustie Golf Links in Angus, Scotland, will be held from 19–22 July 2018.
