South Africa’s leading golfer and 2010 Open champion, Louis Oosthuizen, has been forced to withdraw from the tri-sanctioned Joburg Open.

Oosthuizen, who is a major draw card for the first European Tour event of the season in South Africa, got two of his fingers caught in a trolley at the OR Tambo Airport in Johannesburg on Wednesday morning.

While the damage isn’t too serious, the world number 23’s fingers are severely bruised and he is unable to grip his clubs.

The Joburg Open is set to become the first-ever tri-sanctioned event on South African soil, after the Asian Tour came on baord with the European and Sunshine Tours as the hosts.

The winner of the final event of the 2017 calendar year gains automatic qualification into the 2018 Open Championship at the Carnoustie Golf Links in Angus, Scotland.

The R16,5 million Joburg Open at the Randpark Golf Club tees off on Thursday morning.
