SAHRC brings new hate speech case against Julius Malema | News Article

In September, Malema Tweeted a tribute to former Zimbabwean president, Robert Mugabe where the words "The only white man you can trust is a dead white man" appears under emotive music.

The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) is prosecuting Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader, Julius Malema on a fresh charge of hate speech.

In September, Malema Tweeted a tribute to former Zimbabwean president, Robert Mugabe, where the words "The only white man you can trust is a dead white man" appears under emotive music.

The words "Our party must continue to strike fear in the heart of the white man, our real enemy" also appears in the slideshow.

SAHRC chairperson, Advocate Bongani Majola, says they are proceeding with legal action against Malema.

"We think it's hate speech," says Majola.

In March this year, the SAHRC found previous comments by Malema around the slaughter of white people, Indians mistreating black people in KwaZulu-Natal and the singing of the song ‘kiss the boer’ did not constitute hate speech.

Majola was commenting in the wake of the SAHRC's case against Springbok player, Eben Etzebeth.

The SAHRC confirmed on Monday that it’s received Etzebeth's application to challenge the commission in court.

Majola says they are still studying the papers, but at this stage, "the case still stands, because we've already filed it in the Equality Court."
