The VKB Knights thumped the Warriors by 10 wickets on Thursday at Buffalo Park in East London to record their second victory of the 2019/20 Domestic 4-Day series.

After day one of the contest was washed out, the Warriors were bowled out for 141 runs on the second day thanks 26/4 by Mbulelo Budaza, which Shadley van Schalkwyk and Tshepo Ntuli each claimed two scalps.

The Knights responded with 362 in their first innings to set up that massive victory. The former SA U19 captain, Raynard van Tonder, top-scored for the visitors with an innings of 80 runs, while Andries Gous contributed with 73. The in-form captain, Pite van Biljon, scored 59, while Wandile Makwetu in his turn scored 48 and Keegan Petersen added 45.

Lutho Sipamla to 4 wickets for 76, while Andrew Birch took returned figures of 3/41 and boosted with the best average.

The Warriors started their second innings trailing the Knights by 221 runs, and they would have backed themselves to try and force a draw.

Another solid display with the ball by the seamer, Van Schalkwyk, led to the Warriors being bundled out for 262 runs after lunch on day four, leaving the Knights needing to score just 41 runs for the victory.

This was despite a brave effort with the bat by Matthew Breetzke who scored 109 runs for his maiden first-class century.

Van Schalkwyk took 4/28 in the second innings, while the spinner Shaun von Berg took 3/83.

The Knights needed just 5.3 overs in their second innings to chance down the small target for the victory.

Van Tonder hits the winnings runs with a four to finish on 21*, while his fellow opening batsman, Grant Mokoena was unbeaten on 23.

In October 2019 the Knights hammered the Warriors by 255 runs at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley.
