The Proteas want to adapt to the conditions better when they face Sri Lanka in Port Elizabeth this week in the second and final Test match.

On Saturday Sri Lanka stunned the Proteas with a 1-wicket win at Kingsmead in Durban.

The Proteas Faf du Plessis, says that unfortunately the series is being played at the two venues which better suite teams from the subcontinent, but they have to adapt.

“In a perfect world, if you played in a five Tests against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, who would probably split the venues up a little bit. Maybe one Test against Sri Lanka on the Highveld, and the second at a coastal wicket.

“Having said that, we still have to be adaptable and good enough to be a team like Sri Lanka in our own conditions, even if you are playing on a piece of pudding, you still want to make sure that you get the results.

“We are disappointed in the result from Durban, and we need to look at areas in which we can improve and for me that will be more so in the batting department.

But you cannot take anything away from that fantastic innings by Kusal Perera, scoring a 160-odd of the teams 300 or so runs, credit where credit is due.”

Play at St Georges’ Park starts at 10:00 on Thursday morning.
